GRIND SIZE GUIDE

How Grind size controls extraction

Grind size controls extraction.

Too fine, and the coffee over-extracts — tasting bitter and heavy.

Too coarse, and it under-extracts — tasting weak or sour.

Why It Matters

Water extracts flavor from coffee based on contact time.

Finer grind = more surface area → slower flow → higher extraction

Coarser grind = less surface area → faster flow → lower extraction

Simple Guide

Espresso → Fine

Moka Pot → Fine to medium-fine

Pour Over → Medium

French Press → Coarse

Signs You’re Off

Too bitter → grind is too fine

Too weak or sour → grind is too coarse

Consistency Matters

Even if the grind size is correct, inconsistency in particle size leads to uneven extraction.

This is why grinder quality matters.

Our Approach

We grind coffee to match your brewing method before dispatch.

This removes the need for trial and error and ensures the coffee extracts as intended.

If you’re unsure, choose your brew method — we handle the rest.

Buy whole beans and grind them the way you like.
